Do you know why breeding without bloodtyping your cats is such a huge deal and deeply discouraged?
If a feline is bred by another feline and they have incompatible blood types, any kittens born with incompatible blood type than their mother usually perish via neonatal isoerythrolysis. This is because through the mothers colostrum (also known as mothers first milk) carries strong antibodies of the mothers blood type. Incompatible blood typed kittens receiving a incompatible colostrum from their incompatible mother can cause lysis of the kittens' red blood cells resulting in anemia, jaundice, darkly-pigmented urine, anorexia or sudden death. Meaning you can lose part of entire litters suddenly, leaving heartbreak and grief behind. We encourage breeders to always always ALWAYS bloodtype both parents before breeding to avoid this. Yes alot of people get "lucky" and have never had this happen or think its never happened but this can be a reason for Fading Kitten Syndrome or sudden deaths or a kitten declining suddenly. This isnt as widely talked about as we like and we want to share this information to help educate potential, future, current breeders OR even people looking to adopt via breeder on this detrimental information. This can prevent unnecessary deaths and heartbreak. We do not condone irresponsible breeding practices nor do we encourage just anyone to jump into breeding! This post is to merely shed light on an issue we feel strong about.
